    Description

Model 1872 Cavalry Sword with Scabbard. Ricasso marked "Springfield Armory Springfield Mass. U.S.A.". The guard will move a very tiny bit if you force it and the grip is tight. The sharkskin grip shows light wear and the twisted wire is complete. The guard has the rays on the underside and the eagle with 13 stars on the topside. The etched blade is unsharpened, the tip is sharp (last 1/16" has a minor bend), a couple nicks, and has some age spots scattered throughout. The scabbard is solid with no dents but most of the nickel finish is gone, and there is light surface rust throughout. The washer is intact. Length of the blade measures 34" (13/16" wide x 5/16" thick), length of the sword is 39 5/16", and overall in the scabbard it is 40 3/8".
There were only 2,476 total pieces of the Model 1872 made by Springfield Armory.
