    Description

    This exquisite Saba Lace sampler can be used as a scarf, table top doily, or framed for a beautiful wall decor. I would call the color that of a tropical papaya or cantaloupe. This piece measures approximately 16.5 inches by 16.5 inches. Saba lace is not actually lace but a unique form of needle work produced by the local women of Saba Island. As stated this piece was made on the Dutch Island  of Saba, also known as the ISLAND OF LACE. Saba women have made their lace products for over 130 years and we purchased this work of art 30 years ago while visiting the island. I call this a sampler piece because of all of the different techniques used in making it. The word SABA is spelled out in  three different places along with floral, geometric and even an animal designs. It has been stored in a zip lock bag in a non-smoking home and has never been displayed.
