    Description

US Model 1873 Trowel Bayonet with Leather Scabbard.
The only mark that I could find was "A.R.S." inside the throat of the scabbard. The trowel is in good shape, the tip is sharp, no nicks or bends on the edges, it does have a few spots of some very light surface rust and a couple spots of pitting
. Locking ring is functional and the wood plug slides out easily. The scabbard is in ok shape, the belt hanger is gone, and overall has some leather loss at the edges exposing the tin inside. Length of the blade measures 10", the bayonet is 14 5/8" (without the plug), and in the scabbard it is 16". Socket length is 3 1/2".
    The muzzle hole is 3/4".
The scabbard body on this example bears the inspection mark of A. R. Smith, so it was made at the Watervliet Arsenal.
